The company is willing to spend $1 billion over the next year on buying 10 TV shows. No wonder they hired two top Sony TV executives back in June.
It’s still unknown how Apple would use the content they buy. According to the Wall Street Journal, they want to create up to 10 shows in range with Game of Thrones or House of Cards, but that’s not going to be enough for a full-scale subscription service.
HBO alone has spent around $2 billion in 2017, while Netflix’ is set to spend around $6 billion. Apple won’t be their direct competitor. Instead, it wants them to stream their shows on Apple devices and to sell their services on Apple iTunes store.
