Eurovision 2017: Portugal’s Ballad Wins Contest

For the first time in history, Portugal took the first place at the Eurovision Song Contest last night!

Salvador Sobral, a 27-year-old singer, won the hearts of the audience with his ballad Amar Pelos Dois, written by his sister. Sobral was chosen the best both by the international judges’ votes and the audience votes, winning 758 points total. Bulgarian representative ended up in 2nd place with 615 points.

As he received the trophy, Sobral said:

“We live in a world of fast food music. This is a victory for music… music isn’t fireworks, music is feeling.”
