A Fifth “Game of Thrones” Series is Being Developed

One of Game of Thrones’ co-executive producers is working on a new and 5th prequel series.

After alluding to the possibly of an additional prequel on his blog months ago, EW has confirmed that co-exec. Bryan Cogman, is indeed writing a 5th GoT prequel series. Colman is working closely with author George R.R. Martin in the penning process, and he is  already involved in two of the other four prequel series.

Cogman has been with Thrones since the first season. He started out as an assistant to show runners David Benioff and Dan Weiss. Along the way he has written several of the show’s outstanding episodes, eventually becoming the show’s third-most prolific writer.

Of reading Martin’s debut A Song of Ice and Fire novel, Cogman said he “immediately fell in love with the book from page one, as most people do. It’s probably the most fun I’ve ever had reading anything. It’s inspired storytelling, that’s all there is to it, and the characters are so rich, the themes are so varied. I love it.”

There are no details yet for any of the show’s prequels and that includes the new and 5th one. However, Martin did rule out the options of prequels centering on Robert’s rebellion, as none of the prequels will involve any of the current characters.

All that remains is to wait and see which prequel HBO programming president Casey Bloys will green-light.
