Finally fans get an explanation on JAY-Z and Beyoncé’s pick for twins’ names

Just as fans thought that they couldn’t get more excited about JAY-Z and Beyoncé’s twins, they finally get an explanation why the two named the twins Rumi and Sir.

JAY-Z sat down with Elliot Wilson and Brian Miller for their podcast Rap Radar on Friday during which he dished on the name picks.

Beyoncé revealed her babies to the world on July 14, taking to Instagram to confirm that they’re called Rumi and Sir Carter. Now, a month after we learn that Rumi is named after the couple’s favorite poet. About Sir, the 4:44 artist simply said, “Sir was like, man, come out the gate. He carries himself like that. He just came out, like, Sir.”

The 47-year-old rapper also talked about the twins’ proud older sister, 5-year-old Blue Ivy’s freestyle bonus track on his recent album. Apparently, Blue-Ivy very naturally took after her musical parent, climbing on a little stool and rapping. “I can’t even listen to that song no more,” JAY-Z expressed. “I only listen to her freestyle and then I’m like, ‘I can’t listen to this.'”

4:44 was released on June 30 and JAY-Z will be opening his upcoming tour in October. For now, it’s all about spending as much time as possible with his family and bonding with the twins. “I’m just focused on them. I’m not thinking about a show at night or anything like that. That’s why the tour is so far away from the release of the album.”
