George Clooney Sells Tequila Company for $1 Billion

The tequila company Casamigos, co-founded by the actor George Clooney, has been sold for $1 billion, as NME reports.

Clooney co-founded Casamigos along with Rande Gerber, Cindy Crawford’s husband, and Mike Meldman, the property developer. The company is mega-successful, selling 120,000 units of 9-liter cases last year in U.S. alone. The predictions for this year are around the number of 170,000 units.

The new owner is Diageo – who also owns brands like Smirnoff, Johnnie Walker, and Smirnoff. Clooney shared a statement telling that he and his partners didn’t expect such success:

“If you asked us four years ago if we had a $1bn company, I don’t think we would have said yes. This reflects Diageo’s belief in our company and our belief in Diageo. But we’re not going anywhere. We’ll still be very much a part of Casamigos. Starting with a shot tonight. Maybe two.”
