2018 Oscar Nominations: The Complete List!

Say hello to your 2018 Oscar nominees!

The much anticipated list was announced Tuesday morning live from the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Los Angeles, California.

Many A-listers woke up bright and early to announce the nominees for the 90th annual Academy Awards. Hosting the event were Girls Trip star Tiffany Haddish and actor-director Andy Serkis. Helping to announce the nominees were Priyanka Chopra, Gal Gadot, Salma Hayek, Michelle Rodriguez, Zoe Saldana, Molly Shannon, Rebel Wilson and Michelle Yeoh.

Topping the list as most nominated film of the year with 13 noms is Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water, one nomination shy tying the record currently held by All About Eve, Titanic and La La Land. The Shape of Water is followed by Dunkirk and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri earning 8 and 7 nominations respectively.

This year’s nominations for Hollywood’s biggest night of the year, bring with them plenty of firsts, including Greta Gerwig being the first female director to land a Best Director nomination for her Lady Bird. 2018 marks the second time in Oscar history that three women are nominated for Best Original Screenplay: Gerwig (Lady Bird), Emily V. Gordon (with Kumail Nanjiani on The Big Sick) and Vanessa Taylor (with Guillermo del Toro on The Shape of Water).

As the 5th ever African-American to earn a Best Director nomination, Jordan Peele (also nominated for Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay), will make history as the first African-American director to take home the award if he wins. It is also the first time a Lebanese film was nominated in the Oscar’s foreign-language film category with Ziad Doueri’s film. Yance Ford and Joslyn Barnes are up for Best Documentary Feature for their film Strong Island, making Ford the third openly transgender person nominated for an Oscar. And Christopher Nolan picked up his first Best Director nomination for Dunkirk, and the list goes on…

Alongside the firsts and the records broken, there’s no awards season without a few snubs. A good few names and films were left off of the nom’s list, with the biggest snub being Gal Gadot’s first Wonder Woman nowhere to be found.

The 2018 Oscars, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, will air live from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California, on Sunday, March 4.
