Abbott Elementary created quite a splash when it premiered last year and major awards are finally coming its way. The critically acclaimed ABC sitcom won big at this year’s TCA Awards, taking home four awards.
Abbott Elementary was one of the TV shows in the running for the program of the year and it managed to beat tough competition to come out victorious. The list of nominees also included Better Call Saul, Hacks, Severance, Squid Game, Succession, The White Lotus, and Yellowjackets.
Abbott Elementary also received awards for the outstanding new program and outstanding achievement in comedy. Quinta Brunson picked up the trophy for individual achievement in comedy, beating her co-star Janelle James.
Abbott Elementary’s success at this year’s TCA Awards sets the stage for the upcoming Emmy Awards. This show is in the running in several major categories, including outstanding comedy series, while its stars Quinta Brunson, Tyler James Williams, Janelle James, and Sheryl Lee Ralph all received nominations in their respective acting categories.
As for the rest of the winners at this year’s Television Critics Association Awards, Succession picked up the trophy for outstanding achievement in drama. Dopesick won the award for outstanding achievement in movies or mini-series, while Mandy Moore was honored for her performance in the drama This Is Us.
