Anatomy of a Fall is one of the foreign films to make the biggest splash this award season, and it’s just as popular in its home country of France. César Awards returned to Paris last Friday night, and Justine Triet’s legal drama dominated the ceremony with six wins.

Anatomy of a Fall was the main contender for best film, and it defeated All Your Faces, The Animal Kingdom, The Goldman Case, and Junkyard Dog to take this trophy home. Justine Triet also collected the award for her work as the film’s director.

Anatomy of a Fall came out victorious in four more categories: best actress (Sandra Hüller), best supporting actor (Swann Arlaud), best original screenplay (Justine Triet and Arthur Harari), and best editing (Laurent Sénéchal).

Despite dominating the French version of the Oscars, Anatomy of a Fall hasn’t been chosen as the French submission for the best international feature at the Academy Awards. That didn’t stop it from scoring five nominations in other categories, including best picture, best director, best actress, best original screenplay, and best editing.

The 2024 César Awards took place at the Olympia in Paris on February 23, and the list of major winners also included The Animal Kingdom with five wins and Junkyard Dog with two.
