We can always count on the BAFTA Awards to bring some surprises our way, and this year’s ceremony certainly delivered. Conclave emerged as a major Oscar contender after winning big in London and taking four awards home, including best film and outstanding British film.

Conclave was a clear front-runner at this year’s BAFTAs after coming into the night with 12 nominations, and it managed to live up to the hype. It walked away with a coveted best film prize, beating tough competition in Anora, The Brutalist, A Complete Unknown, and Emilia Pérez.

The acclaimed Papal thriller also walked away with the award for the outstanding British film, where the competition also included Bird, Blitz, Gladiator II, Hard Truths, and Kneecap. It also won awards for best adapted screenplay (Peter Straughan) and best editing (Nick Emerson).

It was also a night to remember for the cast and crew of the period drama The Brutalist. Adrien Brody won the BAFTA for leading this project, while Brady Corbet was honored for his work as a director. The Brutalist also won prizes for best cinematography and best original score.

The 2025 BAFTA Awards took place on February 16 at the Royal Festival Hall in London, with David Tennant hosting the festivities.
