Police Shoot Off-Duty Sheriff’s Deputy Dead After He Threatened Fellow Officers

Chattanooga, TN: A sheriff’s deputy celebrating his 26th birthday with two fellow officers was shot by officers from a different force, according to reports. According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations, the victim Daniel Hendrix who was off duty, became “enraged” during his birthday celebration on Wednesday with two female officers also off duty at a Chattanooga home owned by one of the officers and threatened them with his private firearm, Times Free Press reports.

According to the report, the female officers fled and called 911, and that at around 1:30 am responding Chattanooga officers shot Hendrix was shot dead when he failed to obey orders to drop his weapon.

After what Hendrix’s family called an “unfortunate incident”, Hamilton County Sheriff Jim Hammond offered his condolences, the New York Daily News reports.

Hendrix, who had joined the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office in 2013, was charged and suspended after allegedly assaulting a female inmate in 2015 but was later cleared of all charges.
