A whole new generation of kids will return to the forest to meet Bambi and his best friends Thumper and Flower.

The classic 1942 animated feature is being adapted as a live-action feature, well, sort of. The forthcoming feature will be similar to The Jungle Book and The Lion King, which were not live-action per se. This basically means that it’ll be made to look very real but will not include a living deer, rabbit, or skunk.

Tapped to pen the screenplay for the remake are Captain Marvel and Chaos Walking writers Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Lindsey Beer respectively.

Bambi joins other animated classics that got the live-action remake treatment including The Little Mermaid, Pinocchio, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Peter Pan, Lilo & Stitch, and Hunchback of Notre Dame.
