Abbott Elementary is one of the most successful network sitcoms to premiere in recent years, and ABC is betting big on its future. The award-winning series will return for another ride after getting an early Season 5 renewal.
Abbott Elementary follows the adventures of teachers and staff working at an underfunded elementary school in Philadelphia. Quinta Brunson created this series for ABC and leads its ensemble cast, which also includes Tyler James Williams, Janelle James, Lisa Ann Walter, Chris Perfetti, William Stanford Davis, and Sheryl Lee Ralph.
The show’s renewal comes shortly after Abbott Elementary hit a new viewership high with 8.05 million people tuning in for its winter premiere, a crossover episode with It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. This episode also scored series-high views on streaming, based on the first seven days of availability on Hulu and Disney+.
Abbott Elementary initially premiered on ABC in 2021 and went on to receive 24 Primetime Emmy Awards across its first three seasons. In addition to winning four Emmy Awards, it was also honored with three Golden Globe Awards, including the best television series – musical or comedy in 2023.
The fourth season of Abbott Elementary debuted in October, and it will feature a total of 22 episodes.
