The Palladinos and Amazon Studios have inked an overall deal, which means Gilmore Girls could make a return to our screens.
According to Variety, the overall deal signed between Amazon Studios and creative duo Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino was announced by Amazon Wednesday at the Television Critics Association winter press tour.
“Amy and Dan have a remarkable partnership, grounded in their complete trust in each other and evidenced by the magic they create on-screen — especially with revolutionary roles for women and with their trademark brilliant dialogue,” said Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke in a statement. “We celebrate the critical success of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and our extended overall deal with them, which will allow our Amazon Prime audience to continue to enjoy their groundbreaking show and future original series from this incredible duo.”
On the heels of announcing the deal, Vernon Sanders, Co-Head of Television at Amazon Studios told reporters that a Gilmore Girls revival is not off the table.
“I don’t think [we’ve discussed it],” Sanders said. “We are talking to Amy and Dan about a lot of things. That hasn’t come up. But I do think it speaks to our overall philosophy when it comes to talent, which is we think it benefits us when we have talent that’s creatively happy and have opportunities to do many things,” Sanders added. “If that show were to continue and it isn’t for us, we would obviously be happy to see it happen.”
The original Gilmore Girls ran for seven seasons and starred Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel as the mother-daughter duo. The show was brought back by Netflix with a four-part series nearly 10 years after the original wrapped.
