Legally Blonde fans have spent years waiting for this franchise to make a comeback, and their prayers have finally been answered! Amazon MGM Studios ordered a spin-off series set in the Legally Blonde universe, with the original star Reese Witherspoon coming on board as one of its producers.
Gossip Girl developers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage are writing the script for Amazon’s new series, which they’ll also executive produce. They’ll be joined by the Legally Blonde producer Marc Platt, plus Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter via Hello Sunshine.
Amazon is keeping the plot details under wraps, and it remains unclear if this series will reunite us with Elle Woods or if it will simply be set in the same universe as the original movie. Deadline reports that Amazon is plotting a second potential spin-off, but this project is still in the “idea stages”.
Legally Blonde follows the adventures of Elle Woods, who decides to apply for the law program at Harvard University to spite her ex and prove to the world she has what it takes to become a successful lawyer. The film produced a sequel Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde, a successful Broadway musical, and television film Legally Blondes, and its third sequel is currently on the way.
