2023 has been another epic year for film and television, and the annual AFI Awards certainly reflect that. American Film Institute’s annual list of the top ten films and TV shows of 2023 is here, and it includes the likes of Oppenheimer, Barbie, Succession, and The Bear.
Bob Gazzale, AFI President and CEO, said they’re “honored to shine a proper light upon these works of art that lift us up and, ultimately, lead us to empathy” as the world continues to navigate difficult times.
He added they’re proud to gather this community of artists together to celebrate their extraordinary contributions in a private ceremony that will take place at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills on January 12, 2024.
Oppenheimer and Barbie, two films that found groundbreaking success at the summer box office after sparking the global phenomenon known as Barbenheimer, will be two of the films acknowledged by AFI, along with Killers of the Flower Moon, Past Lives, and Poor Things.
When it comes to the television field, Emmy front-runners Succession and The Bear are among this year’s honorees. The list also includes several rookie shows that knocked us off our feet with their first seasons, including Beef, Jury Duty, The Last of Us, and Poker Face.
