Amy Adams in Talks to Star in Annapurna’s “True American”

Variety reports that Amy Adams wants The True American to be her next film project.

The upcoming drama from Annapurna Pictures is based on the nonfiction book by Anand Giridharadas. Set in Texas, it chronicles the days in the life of Rais Bhuiyan, a Muslim immigrant and Bangladesh Air Force veteran following the 9/11 attacks.

The film will be directed by “Jackie” Pablo Larrain. Mark Ruffalo and Kumail Nanjiani are also in talks to co-star with Adams.

While Annapurna has been developing the film for some time, it will no longer finance the movie. Sources tell Variety that it’s in talks with Amazon Studios to take over financing and distribution.

Adams is currently serving as producer on Sharp Objects. A high priority project, promotion is expected to be bigger than usual. The movie is set to premiere this year.
