Cape Fear is the latest ’90s classic getting a TV remake, and its cast is shaping up to be as epic as it gets. The six-time Oscar-nominated actress Amy Adams will star opposite Javier Bardem in the Apple TV+ series inspired by John D. MacDonald’s novel The Executioners.

MacDonald’s book inspired several adaptations in the past, including the 1962 version starring Gregory Peck and Martin Scorsese’s remake led by Robert De Niro and Nick Nolte. Apple TV+ ordered a ten-episode adaptation, with Nick Antosca serving as writer, executive producer, and showrunner.

This new version will center on happily married attorneys Anna and Tom Bowden, who must face the ghosts of their past after Max Cady, a notorious killer from their past, gets out of prison. Bardem previously joined the series as Max Cady, while Amy Adams is set to play Anna Bowden.

Cape Fear will mark Adams’ first TV role since the acclaimed HBO mini-series Sharp Objects, which earned her nominations for a Golden Globe and Primetime Emmy Award. She also earned six Oscar nods for her roles in Junebug, Doubt, The Fighter, The Master, American Hustle, and Vice, while also starring in hit films Enchanted, Arrival, and Man of Steel. She’ll next be seen in Taika Waititi’s adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro’s Klara and the Sun.
