Anne Hathaway Lands Lead Role in “The Witches” Remake

2019 is already shaping up to be a pretty busy year for Anne Hathaway. The list of new projects she’s attached to is constantly expanding, and it turns out she’ll also be working on upcoming remake of The Witches.

the Oscar-winning actress will be taking on the role of the Grand High Witch, played by Anjelica Huston in the 1990 classic.

This project is based on Roald Dahl’s popular children’s novel, and tells the story of a young boy who stumbles onto a witch convention and must do everything in his power to stop them.

Guillermo del Toro previously expressed a desire to make a stop-motion film based on this book, but that never happened. Robert Zemeckis eventually jumped on board, and agreed to direct and write the script for this exciting project.

Rumor has it Anne Hathaway won’t be the only Oscar winner starring in The Witches. Viola Davis is reportedly circling the project, as well, but nothing is official just yet. Release date is also still a mystery.
