Anne Hathaway in talks to star in Dee Rees’ “The Last Thing He Wanted”

The Oscar-winner is in negotiations to star in The Last Thing He Wanted. 

Helming the big-screen adaptation of Joan Didion’s 1996 political thriller is Mudbound director Dee Rees.

The film will see Rees join forces again with Cassian Elwes, as the two previously worked on Mudbound together. Following their collaboration, Elwes optioned the novel from Didion to develop in partnership with Rees. Mudbound garnered four Oscar nominations with Rees personally up for Best Adapted Screenplay. Marco Villalobos is penning the screenplay. The project is currently in pre-production.

Hathaway will star as journalist Elena McMahon who get entangled in the world of arms dealing after abandoning the coverage of the 1984 presidential campaign.

Hathaway can be seen next in Oceans 8 alongside Sandra Bullock, Rihanna, Cate Blanchett, Sarah Paulson, Helena Bonham-Carter, and Mindy Kaling.
