Ariana Grande Performs Her New Single “Thank U, Next” on Ellen

Ariana Grande is back with a new song about her past relationships.

The 25-year-old singer took the stage on The Ellen DeGeneres Show Wednesday for the first televised performance of her new single, “Thank U, Next.”

The performance, inspired by the hit 1996 film The First Wives Club, was teased by the singer on Instagram. Grande shared a picture of herself with fellow singers Tayla Parx and Victoria Monet. clad in all white sultry ensembles. It was captioned, “First wives club 2018… @theellenshow tomorrow 🖤 i love you @victoriamonet @taylaparx… thank u, next.”

The single features lines about four of her ex-boyfriends including former fiance, Pete Davidson, the late Mac Miller, Big Sean, and Ricky Alvarez. But the single is also a tribute to the singer’s journey as a woman, which the relationships were part of.

At some point in her performance, the singer almost fell over when stepping down from a chair in heeled boots and exclaimed, “Oh my god!” which was followed by giggles. But the performance was also emotional for the 25-year-old, who sang about her parents:

“One day I’ll walk down the aisle. Holding hands with my mama,” she sang holding back tears. “I’ll be thanking my dad. ‘Cause she grew from the drama.”
