Disney Unveils the First Teaser For Upcoming Adaptation of “Artemis Fowl”

Fans of the Artemis Fowl novels spent years hoping their favorite book series will get to live its second life on the big screen. Their prayers have finally been answered when Disney dropped an epic new teaser trailer based on the first novel.

Described by its author Eoin Colfer as “Die Hard with fairies,” this series tells the story of 12-year old criminal mastermind Artemis Fowl who bites more than he can chew after kidnaping a powerful fairy, in the hope her magic will save his family.

Kenneth Branagh, who enjoyed huge success with the live-action remake of Cinderella, will be in charge of directing Disney’s latest. The Oscar-nominated filmmaker revealed that The Godfather served as the main influence for him as both projects feature protagonists experiencing loss of innocence after learning more about their complex family history.

Around 1,200 boys auditioned for the role of the titular character, but newcomer Ferdia Shaw was the one who proved he’s up for the challenge. This big screen-adaptation will premiere on August 9, 2019, and it also stars Lara McDonnell, Josh Gad, and Judi Dench.
