The Way of Water is now the sixth highest-grossing movie of all time, and it’s joining the ranks as Avatar, Avengers: Endgame, Titanic, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and Avengers: Infinity War as only the sixth movie in history to ever earn more than $2 billion worldwide.
It’s not a shocker to see The Way of Water reach this impressive number since it set many major box office milestones following its release on December 16, 2022. It became the highest-grossing movie of 2022, with the third largest opening during the pandemic era behind Marvel’s Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
The Way of Water has grossed $597.9 million domestically so far, but its performance overseas is even more impressive, with $1.426 billion earned outside of North America. It crossed the $2 billion mark in just 37 days, becoming the second-fastest movie to reach the milestone behind Avengers: Endgame.
