Barbie has been breaking records left and right ever since it hit the theatres back in July, and it’s showing no signs of stopping! Greta Gerwig’s acclaimed film surpassed $1.365 billion at the global box office this past weekend to become the highest-grossing film of 2023 so far.

Barbie managed to overtake The Super Mario Bros. Movie as the highest-grossing film of the year after less than two months in the theaters. It originally premiered on July 21 and set several opening records upon its release after scoring the largest domestic opening ever for a film by a female director.

It also had the most impressive opening numbers for a film that was not a sequel, remake, or superhero property. It went on to become Warner Bros’ fastest film to reach $1 billion and later became the studio’s highest-grossing film of all time, beating Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2.

Barbie sees the titular heroine, played by the Oscar-nominated actress Margot Robbie, embarking on a journey of self-discovery in the real world. The film’s star-studded cast also includes Ryan Gosling, America Ferrera, Ariana Greenblatt, Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae, Michael Cera, Will Ferrell, and Helen Mirren as the film’s narrator.
