“Batwoman” Lead Ruby Rose Leaves Series Ahead of Season 2

Ruby Rose in "Batwoman"

The CW will have to recast a new lead for Batwoman after Ruby Rose has chosen to exit the series ahead of the second season.

It’s unclear why Rose decided to leave the show and in a statement, she said “I have made the very difficult decision to not return to Batwoman next season. This was not a decision I made lightly as I have the utmost respect for the cast, crew, and everyone involved with the show in both Vancouver and in Los Angeles.”

Rose’s groundbreaking role was the first gay lead character, male or female, of a live-action superhero series. The series is interested in casting another LGBTQ actress as the lead role.

In September, Rose sustained an injury while doing a stunt on the set of Season 1 which caused her to have emergency surgery for two herniated discs. A source told Variety that her decision to leave “had nothing to do with her health or injury.”

The CW renewed Batwoman for the 2020-2021 season in January.
