The CW gives a pilot order to Batwoman and makes history while at it!
Ruby Rose’s Batwoman series is officially coming to television with a stand-alone series after being handed a pilot order from The CW.
The news of a pilot order was announced Thursday. Emmy-winning Game of Thrones helmer, David Nutter has been tapped to direct. Caroline Dries (The Vampire Diaries) has been set as showrunner and writer, while Greg Berlanti will exec producer.
The pilot order marks the first gay lead character — male or female — of a live-action superhero series played by an openly gay Rose. Rose debuted her Batwoman just a few weeks ago in the DC Comics series crossover Elseworlds.
“Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.”
