Bette Midler Joins Ryan Murphy’s “The Politician”

Deadline reports that Bette Midler and Judith Light have joined the forthcoming Netflix series. 

The official announcement was made by The Politician creator Ryan Murphy during the Pose panel at the PaleyFest. He also revealed that Pose writer and helmer, Janet Mock, will direct an episode. 

Murphy concluded his on-stage announcement with “That’s my diva update.”

The Politician is Muphy’s first series on the streaming giant. The series follows a wealthy studen, Payton Hobart played by Ben Platt, who has known since age 7 that he’s going to be POTUS. But first, he’ll have to navigate the treacherous political landscape of high school and get elected student body president.

Midler and Light join the cast for season one that includes Gwyneth Paltrow, Jessica Lange, Zoey Deutch, Lucy Boynton, Bob Balaban, David Corenswet, Julia Schlaepfer, Laura Dreyfuss, Theo Germaine, Rahne Jones, and Benjamin Barrett.

The Politician will debut September 27 on Netflix.
