Beyoncé joins cast of Disney’s live-action The Lion King as the voice of Nala!

Disney announced in a press release on Wednesday, that the GRAMMY winner has joined the star-studded cast of its epic hit The Lion King. The movie became an instant classic after its release in 1994. The film grossed $968.8 million globally and won two Academy Awards as well as two GRAMMY Awards. The Broadway adaptation, which debuted in 1997, earned six Tony’s.

Beyoncé took to Facebook and shared the exciting news with her fans.

Director Jon Favreau said of the cast that “it is a director’s dream to assemble a talented team like this to bring this classic story to life.” The cast includes Donald Glover as Simba, James Earl Jones as Mufasa and Chiewetel Ejiofor as Scar. Additional cast members are Alfre Woodard (Sarabi), John Oliver (Zazu), John Kani (Rafiki), Seth Rogen (Pumbaa), Billy Eichner (Timon), Eric Andre (Azizi), Florence Kasumba (Shenzi) and Keegan-Michael Key (Kamari) also star. JD McCrary and Shahadi Wright Joseph will play young Simba and Young Nala, respectively.

Disney’s live-action The Lion King will hit theaters on 19 July, 2019.
