The roaring ’20s went down in history as one of Hollywood’s most iconic eras, and Babylon is about to show us what they were truly like. The first trailer for Damien Chazelle’s extravagant new movie is here, and its star-studded cast is led by Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie.

Babylon has been described as “a tale of outsized ambition and outrageous excess”, and “it traces the rise and fall of multiple characters during an era of unbridled decadence and depravity in early Hollywood.”

It’s Chazelle’s first film since the Neil Armstrong biopic First Man starring Ryan Gosling. He wanted to do something “boisterous and loud” after this project, and Babylon proved to be a perfect fit, especially since he’s been putting it off for quite some time due to its massive scale.

With Babylon, Chazelle set out to tell an epic tale set in the early days of Hollywood, focusing on a mixture of historical and fictional characters. Pitt will play mega-star Jack Conrad, Robbie will appear as party-loving, aspiring actress Nellie LaRoy, while newcomer Diego Calva will portray a young Mexican-American actor pursuing a career in Hollywood.

Babylon will also star Jovan Adepo, Li Jun Li, Jean Smart, P.J. Byrne, Lukas Haas, Tobey Maguire, Max Minghella, Katherine Waterston, Samara Weaving, and Olivia Wilde. It will have a limited release on December 25, before opening wide on January 6, 2023.
