We’ve watched Brad Pitt portray dozens of amazing characters over the course of his three-decade-long career, and his next film Ad Astra will see him embark on a journey through the depths of space.
The first trailer for this intergalactic epic is here and it features the stunning first footage from this promising project. According to its official description, Ad Astra will tell the story of “an astronaut travels to the outer edges of the solar system to find his father and unravel a mystery that threatens the survival of our planet.”
Director James Gray described this project as a giant mash-up of Apocalypse Now and 2001: A Space Odyssey, and said he was trying to make the most realistic depiction of space travel that’s been put in a movie.
“We did the deep dive, and what I’ve tried to do is shake up the genre a little bit. It’s all of a piece where you want the film to be dramatically fulfilling and to tackle some profound stuff because that’s the genre that enables you to do so,” Grey said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
Ad Astra is scheduled to premiere on September 20th, and it will also star Liv Tyler, Tommy Lee Jones, and Ruth Negga.
