“My Brilliant Friend” Renewed for Season 2

My Brilliant Friend is returning to HBO for a second season.

The news of a second season commitment by the cable network and platform was announced ahead of the Season One finale.

My Brilliant Friend was dubbed a miniseries at its launch, based on Elena Ferrante’s four-part best-feeling series. Season Two will be based on the second book in the series, titled The Story of a New Home.

“We’re thrilled that Elena Ferrante’s epic story has resonated so powerfully with viewers and critics, and we look forward to the continuing journey of Elena and Lila,” said HBO programming president Casey Bloys.

“RAI is deeply proud of the extraordinary success of My Brilliant Friend,” said Fabrizio Salini, RAI CEO, who is producing the Italian-language drama with TIMVISION. “It’s an important milestone that confirms our commitment to focusing on international co-production, as well as on the value of Italian talent.”

My Brilliant Friend is the story of Elena Greco and Raffaella “Lila” Cerullo, who meet as children and are part of each other’s lives for more than 60 years. The series is filmed in Italy and in Italian and stars Elisa Del Genio and Ludovica Nasti as the younger versions of Elena and Lila, and Margherita Mazzucco and Gaia Girace as teenage versions.
