Britney Spears spent two decades dropping one hit song after another, but she’s now hitting the pause button on her career. The Grammy-winning singer is taking an indefinite hiatus because she wants to put her family first.
The pop princess made this decision after her father suffered from a near-fatal colon rupture. He’s currently recuperating at home after a lengthy hospital course, and Britney wanted to be by his side every step of the way.
“A couple of months ago, my father was hospitalized and almost died. We’re all so grateful that he came out of it alive, but he still has a long road ahead of him. I had to make the difficult decision to put my full focus and energy on my family at this time,” wrote Spears on Instagram.
Her second Las Vegas residency Britney: Domination was put on hold until further notice. It was supposed to launch on February 13, with a total of 32 shows planned through August this year. Despite the fact they won’t get to hear her perform, Britney’s fans sent her love and support on Twitter and Instagram and wished her father a fast recovery.
