“Cagney and Lacey” and “Magnum P.I.” May Be Getting Their Own TV Reboots

Looks like 2018 is turning out to be a year of reboots as new takes on two 1980s shows will be joining the 2018 TV season. CBS has just ordered pilots to two iconic TV shows: Cagney and Lacey and Magnum P.I.

Just two days after announcing the revival of Murphy Brown with original star Candice Bergen on board, the network ordered pilots for two additional reboots.

Magnum P.I.’s modern take is described by the network as, “an update of the classic television series set in Hawaii [that] follows Thomas Magnum, a decorated ex-Navy SEAL who, upon returning home from Afghanistan, repurposes his military skills to become a private investigator.”  The description offered for Cagney and Lacey’s new version sound pretty familiar with a change of location, “In this reboot of the iconic series, two female police detectives and friends keep the streets of LA safe.”

While there’s no guarantee for a reboot to be a success no matter how popular the original was, CBS has had some success with crime show reboots with Hawaii Five-O.
