Multiple outlets report that Cate Blanchett is in talks to join Bradley Cooper in Guillermo del Toro‘s Nightmare Alley.
Nightmare Alley is Oscar winner del Toro’s follow-up to The Shape of Water, which won Best Picture. Del Toro will direct the pic from a script he co-wrote with Kim Morgan.
The film is based on William Lindsay Gresham’s 1946 novel of the same name. This isn’t the first time the story is getting a feature adaptation – Nightmare Alley was previously made into a film in 1947 starring actor Tyrone Power.
The story follows an ambitious young con-man who joins a traveling carnival. But after the young man teams up with a female psychiatrist who is even more corrupt than he is, she ends up out-manipulating the manipulator.
Nightmare Alley is Cooper’s first role since his Oscar-nominated performance in A Star is Born. You can see Blanchett next in Richard Linklater’s Where’d You Go Bernadette?
