The classic rom-com Four Weddings and a Funeral is turning 25 this year, and Hulu is marking the occasion by bringing this story into the modern world. The first trailer for the mini-series based on the 1994 movie is here, and it exceeded our wildest expectations.
The Game of Thrones actress Nathalie Emmanuel takes on the role of Maya, who travels from New York to London to attend a wedding of her college classmate. Reconnecting with old friends isn’t as fun as she first expected and she finds herself stuck in the midst of their personal drama.
Mindy Kaling created the series alongside Matt Warburton, despite her initial hesitation. She eventually agreed to do the project because she loved the original movie directed by Richard Curtis, but still wanted to give it a personal touch.
“I thought if I can do this in a way where I wouldn’t have a lot of comparisons to the original source material, which is perfect, and if I did it in a way through the lens of Mindy Kaling, I would think that would be an interesting project,” said Kaling in a statement.
Four Weddings and a Funeral will premiere on July 31st, and it also stars Nikesh Patel, Rebecca Rittenhouse, Brandon Mychal Smith, and Andie MacDowell.
