Multiple outlets report that the next two installments in the Mission Impossible franchise will be directed by Christopher McQuarrie. 

News that McQuarrie has signed on to helm the new action-packed features expected to hit theaters in the summers of 2021 and 2022 was teased by both Tom Cruise and McQuarrie. 

Cruise tweeted a short video of the franchise’s iconic “M:I” logo with two fuses burning toward the letters. He captioned the video with “Summer 2021 and Summer 2022.” McQuarrie simply tweeted, “Missions: Accepted #MissionImpossible.”

McQuarrie is no stranger to the MI franchise or to working with Cruise. The filmmaker directed the last to movies in the series, Rogue Nation and Fallout who hauled $682.7 and $791.1 respectively in the global box office. He also previously worked with Cruise on the 2012 thriller Jack Reacher.
