There’s always a lot of mystery surrounding Christopher Nolan’s projects, and we finally know what his next movie will be about. The visionary director is getting ready to put his own twist on Homer’s ancient Greek epic The Odyssey, and he’ll use brand-new IMAX technology to bring this story to life.
After a lot of rumors surrounding Nolan’s next feature, Universal Pictures released an official statement confirming he’s getting ready to adapt The Odyssey. The studio described this project as “a mythic action epic shot across the world” that “brings Homer’s foundational saga to IMAX film screens for the first time.”
The Odyssey takes place in the wake of the Trojan War, and it sees the Greek hero Odysseus facing many obstacles on his decade-long journey to return to Ithaca to his wife Penelope and son Telemachus. It features encounters with many iconic characters in Greek mythology, including the Cyclops, witch-goddess Circe, sea monsters Scylla and Charybdis, and the Sirens.
Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, and Charlize Theron have previously joined the cast of this star-studded project. The Odyssey will arrive in theaters on July 17, 2026, and it marks Nolan’s second collaboration with Universal, following the groundbreaking success of his Oscar-winning historical drama Oppenheimer.
