Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” Gets a First Look

Christopher Nolan is getting ready to put his own twist on the Greek epic The Odyssey, and the first look at his next film is finally here. Universal Pictures shared the first photo of Matt Damon as Odysseus, the Greek hero who embarked on a tumultuous journey to return home after the Trojan War.

Universal’s official logline describes Nolan’s version of The Odyssey as a “mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new Imax film technology.” It’s based on Homer’s epic poem about the King of Ithaca, who went through hell and high water and faced some of the most dangerous creatures of Greek mythology on his long journey back home after the Trojan War.

The first look at Nolan’s The Odyssey confirms Matt Damon will take on the lead role, and he’ll be in pretty good company. The A-list ensemble of this project also includes Tom Holland, Mia Goth, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Benny Safdie, Jon Bernthal, John Leguizamo, and Elliot Page, among others.

The Odyssey will kick off production this spring, and parts of this epic will be filmed on the Island of Favignana in Sicily, which was mentioned in Homer’s poem. It will be released by Universal Pictures on July 17, 2026.
