The murderous doll is heading to Syfy.

Multiple outlets report that the cabler has given a straight-to-series order to Chucky, a new series based on the possessed red-haired doll in the Child’s Play film franchise.

Syfy tapped film franchise scribe Don Mancini to pen the TV adaptation, direct the first episode, and serve as showrunner.

“The character Don and David [Kirschner] created has terrified audiences for over 30 years,” said Chris McCumber, President of Entertainment Networks USA & Syfy for NBCUniversal. “The longevity and legacy of Chucky speaks to the creative storytelling and the loyal fans the film series has collected over the years. We are excited to once again partner with Nick and UCP on this new Syfy series, and are incredibly proud to bring Chucky to television for the first time with the original creators.”

It is reported that the new series will see a small town terrorized by a string of murders following the appearance of a vintage Chucky doll at a yard sale.
