“Clueless, The Musical” will finally premiere Off-Broadway this fall

Looks like teen classic turned musicals are the next big trend.

After Mean Girls made its Broadway debut, its time for another teen clique to hit the stage.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that the New Group announced its lineup for the 2018-19 season, which includes a musical version of the ’90s film Clueless.

The production is based on the 1995 film written and directed by Amy Heckerling. Heckerling has also been tapped to pen the stage adaptation. Set to direct is Tony nominee, Kristin Hanggi, with Kelly Devine serving as the musical’s choreographer. The score will be comprised of parody versions of ’90s pop hit

Last year, shortly after finishing the show’s book, Heckerling told EW: “That’s really been fun because I’m getting involved in a whole new world,” she said. “And, yeah, what else can I say? It’s nice to learn some new s—.”

Playing female-lead Cher Horowitz in the 1995 film was Alicia Silverstone, but casting for the musical has yet to be announced.

Finally, after years of speculation, we’ll get to see Cher, Dionne, and Tai reunited again this fall.
