Matt Reeves’ The Batman introduced us to several fascinating villains, and one of them is getting his own spin-off series. Oscar nominee Colin Farrell takes the lead in the first teaser trailer for The Penguin, a limited series coming to Max later this year.

The Penguin is set weeks after the events of The Batman and it chronicles the titular villain’s rise to power. This series will see the Penguin build a formidable reputation in the Gotham underworld, becoming one of the most prominent villains in the Batman universe.

The first teaser sees Farrell’s Penguin recalling the story of an old gangster from his childhood, that he looked up to as a kid.

“When I was 14 or something, he has a heart attack and dies, still holding a cigar. In my neighborhood, they throw a parade in his honor. A friggin’ parade. It wasn’t fancy, but it was a gesture, a show of love, of what he meant. Can you imagine to be remembered like that?” says Farrell.

In addition to Farrell in the lead role, this limited series will also star Cristin Milioti as Carmine Falcone’s daughter Sofia, Michael Zegen as her brother Alberto, and Clancy Brown as Gotham’s former top gangster Salvatore Maroni.

The Penguin will feature eight, episodes, set to premiere on Max later this year.
