Celine Song gave us one of the best films of 2023 with Past Lives, and she’s already working on its follow-up. The acclaimed director is rounding out an impressive cast for her new movie The Materialists, with Dakota Johnson, Pedro Pascal, and Chris Evans eyeing key roles.

The Materialists will reportedly center on a high-end matchmaker who gets involved with a wealthy man, while still struggling to let go of her feelings for the broke actor-waiter she left behind. Johnson is in talks to play the lead role, with Evans and Pascal circling the project.

This project will reunite Song with A24, and they’re expected to take it to the European Film Market for sales. Killer Films and 2AM are also on board, with Christine Vachon and Pam Koffler of Killer Films and 2AM’s David Hinojosa coming on board as producers.

Song knocked it out of the park with her directorial film debut Past Lives, starring Greta Lee, Teo Yoo, and John Magaro. It became a huge hit following its premiere at last year’s Sundance Film Festival and received nominations for countless accolades. It will be in the running for best original screenplay and best picture at the upcoming Academy Awards.
