David Spade to Headline Comedy Series at HBO

David Spade could be heading back to television.

The 54-year-old star has been tapped to headline a new series currently in development at HBO.

The yet to be titled project hails from Diablo Cody and Jason Reitman. The two have collaborated in the past on films like Tully, Young Adult, and Jennifer’s Body, and 2007’s Juno, all directed by Reitman and written by Cody. Once again, Cody is penning the script while Reitman will direct, while Spade will produce in addition to starring in the series.

The series follows Calvin Wash (Spade), a semi-famous grunge musician in the ’90s who was hooked on heroin. Now he’s clean, sober and working as a waiter in the Valley. When he meets troubled 20-something actress Bailey, both of their lives change in unexpected and electrifying ways.

Should the untitled project go to series, it will mark Spade’s first starring role in a TV series since Rules of Engagement.
