“Deadwood” Movie is Finally Happening

The long-gestating project has finally been given the green light. 

The news was confirmed Wednesday straight from HBO’s programming president Casey Bloys during the summer Television Critics Association press tour.

“I can finally, finally confirm we are greenlit on the Deadwood movie,” Bloys said. “It will shoot in October.” The wrap-up movie has been rumored for years after the network’s prematurely canceled the Western series.

The exec also talked about the production’s “logistical nightmare,” that is assembling the cast back together, including star Timothy Olyphant, Ian McShane, and Molly Parker. 

The series ran from 2004 to 2006 took place in 1870s Deadwood, South Dakota, and followed the community’s growth from a camp to a town.
