Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez Reunite at InStyle Awards

Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez delighted fans when they posed for their first photo together in two years at InStyle Awards on Monday night.

Lovato and Gomez were childhood pals, appearing on Barney & Friends when they were kids and later co-starred in Disney Channel original movie Princess Protection Program in 2009. The duo grew apart over the years and fans have followed their ups and downs.

Despite their rocky history, Lovato tweeted Selena in July to praise her song “Fetish,” writing, “Loving your new song ‘Fetish’, we’ve come a long way since our Barney days.”

After the release of Demi Lovato: Simply Complicated documentary, in which Lovato opened up about her drug abuse, Gomez publicly praised her former co-star.

“This was beautiful,” she shared. “I’m so happy for you. You always continue to be bold and real. I wish more people were like you. Love you.”

“I’ve known her since we were 7, and we did fall apart for a while,” Gomez told Seventeen last 2014. “She was going through things and I was so young and it was confusing. I processed it saying, ‘OK, I don’t understand what she’s going through, so I’m just going to do this.’ I don’t think it was fair, and I’m so happy that I have her back in my life now.” However, they unfollowed each other on social media a few months later. As Lovato later said on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, “People change and people grow apart.”

The InStyle Awards took place at The Getty Center in L.A. Lovato was honored with Advocate of the Year Award and Gomez presented Hung Vanggo with the Makeup Artist of the Year award, E! News reports.
