Denzel Washington Set to Receive AFI Life Achievement Award

Denzel Washington won more awards then he can count over the course of his acting career spanning four decades, and he’s getting ready to put another coveted statue on his shelf. The American Film Institute will honor this Hollywood legend by bestowing him with the prestigious Life Achievement Award.

Howard Stringer, chair of the AFI Board of Trustees, described Washington as an American icon and said their organization is proud to present him with this award.

“As an actor, he stands tall as a heroic, stoic embodiment of the best in all of us, and he does so with heart, humanity and one of the brightest smiles to ever light up the screen. Equally formidable as director and producer, he is a creative force to be reckoned with — and one of the most vital, relevant artists working today,” explained Stringer.

AFI Life Achievement Award was established in 1973, and it’s been given to recipients whose talent has in a fundamental way advanced the film art ever since. Denzel Washington is definitely one of those people, and this is not even the first honor of this caliber that he received. Two-time Oscar winner previously collected Cecil B. DeMille Award at Golden Globe ceremony in 2016.
