The Dexter universe is constantly expanding, and the next series in this franchise will take us decades into the past. Dexter: Original Sin chronicles Dexter Morgan’s early years, and the new trailer sees him learning how to control his bloodthirsty urges and channel his inner darkness.

Dexter: Original Sin is set years before the original series, in Miami during the early 90s, where Dexter just started a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department. After years of keeping his sinister nature under control, he makes a transition from student to a serial killer, after his father helps him develop his signature code and only murder people who deserve to be eliminated from society.

Michael C. Hall returns as the narrator of the prequel series and the inner voice of the young version of Dexter, played by Patrick Gibson. The show’s star-studded cast also includes Christian Slater, Patrick Dempsey, Molly Brown, James Martinez, Christina Milian, Alex Shimizu, Reno Wilson, and Sarah Michelle Gellar.

Dexter: Original Sin will have its world premiere on Paramount+ on December 13 before airing on Showtime two days later. It’s not the first Dexter spin-off and it won’t be the last – Dexter: New Blood premiered on Showtime in 2021, and its sequel Dexter: Resurrection is on the way.
