A Beauty and the Beast prequel series is officially in the works!

Multiple outlets confirm that a prequel series to the hit 2017 live-action adaptation of the animated classic is in development at Disney+. Luke Evans and Josh Gad set to reprise their roles as Gaston and LeFou respectably. 

According to Deadline, the six-episode series is set many years before the time period of the feature film.

The musical series hails from co-writers and showrunners Eddy Kitsis and Adam Horowitz. The two will also executive produce alongside Gad, who will also serve as co-writer on the project. 

The 2017 Beauty and the Beast film, starred Emma Watson and Dan Stevens in the lead roles. Directed by Bill Condon, it grossed more than $1 billion worldwide.
