The Little Mermaid is one of the most highly-anticipated Disney films coming our way this year, and its first full trailer is finally here. Disney gave us a glimpse of things to come during the Oscars telecast, and later released the trailer and the film’s new poster online.

According to its official logline, The Little Mermaid centers on a young mermaid (Halle Bailey), who makes a deal with a sea witch, trading her beautiful voice to get human legs so she can discover the world above water.

It’s a familiar story, loosely based on Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale, which previously served as the inspiration for Disney’s animated classic from 1989. Its live-action remake has been in development since 2017 when Rob Marshall agreed to direct it, and it will finally premiere on May 26.

The first official trailer gives us glimpses of the film’s plot, showing Ariel saving Prince Eric (Jonah Hauer-King) from a shipwreck. After being scolded by her father King Triton, she makes a dangerous deal with a sea witch Ursula, which will affect everyone around her.

In addition to Bailey and Hauer-King, the remake will also star Javier Bardem as King Triton, Noma Dumezweni as Queen Selina, Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, plus Daveed Diggs, Awkwafina, and Jacob Tremblay in the voice roles.
