Disney Revealed the Release Dates for Upcoming Major Movies

Walt Disney Company and Lucasfilm recently announced the release dates of major upcoming movies, Star Wars: Episode IX, Indiana Jones and Frozen 2.

Star Wars: Episode IX directed by Colin Trevorrow, will gallop into theatres on May 24, 2019, while Steven Spielberg’s Indiana Jones is set for July 10, 2020. It was previously planned to debut on July 19, 2019. The delay is expected since Spielberg has several projects under his belt, including Ready Player One, a big-screen adaptation of the best-selling science-fiction novel, and a drama about the Pentagon Papers with Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep. The delay also gives the filmmakers more time to craft a script that both Spielberg and Harrison Ford approve of, Variety reports.

Disney also revealed the much-anticipated Frozen sequel, Frozen 2, which will be released on Nov. 27, 2019. Kristin Bell shared her reaction to the news on Twitter, writing, “Quick weather forecast from your favorite disney princess’ sister: Theaters are gonna get Frozen on November 27, 2019! Woo Hoo!!!!”

Disney also shared the release date for the live-action Lion King, which is set on July 19, 2019. Director Jon Favreau celebrated the news by posting to Twitter together with a lion emoji and king emoji. Favreau was also tapped for the live-action remake of The Jungle Book, which reached to $965.8 million worldwide after its debut. He is also developing a sequel to The Jungle Book, though the film’s release date is yet to be announced, according to E! News.
