Disney Reveals First Look at Live-action Version of “Mulan”

Disney has finally released the first-image look of its live-action Mulan film.

The image released by the network on Monday features Liu Yifei, also known as Crystal Liu in character. The image was released to mark the first day of production on the highly anticipated live-action film.

The film has been in the works for a while and the search for the female lead lasted an entire year!

The film is adapted from Disney’s 1998 animated film of the same name and follows the tale of a young woman who disguises herself as a man in order to fight Northern invaders attacking China.

“The eldest daughter of an honored warrior, Hua Mulan is spirited, determined and quick on her feet. When the Emperor issues a decree that one man per family must serve in the Imperial Army, she steps in to take the place of her ailing father as Hua Jun, becoming one of China’s greatest warriors ever,” Disney said in a statement.

Joining the cast are Jimmy Wong and Doua Moua who will play the roles of Ling and Po, respectively. Among other actors cast in the film are Jet Li, Donnie Yen, Cheng Pei-pei and Tzi Ma.
